CEB TO PURCHASE FUEL DIRECTLY
UNDER INDIAN CREDIT FACILITY
BY KELUM BANDARA
The Ceylon Electricity Board(ceb) will opt for the purchase of fuel from Lanka Indian Oil Company (LIOC) or any other source using the credit facility offered by India instead of depending on the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation(cpc) for fuel supply to generate power , an official said .
The decision has been taken at a meeting chaired by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa with the key stakeholders involved in fuel supply and power generation.
CEB Chairman M.M.C. Ferdinando told
Daily Mirror he would press ahead with the decision and look at the import of fuel directly using the credit arrangement from India for power generation.
“We will do it through the LIOC,” he said.
However , he said the CPC agreed to supply fuel from available stocks for the operation of the Sapugaskanda and Kelanitissa power plants and therefore power cuts could be avoided for another dozen of days.
