Gas, petrol prices up!

M.JALALDEEN ISFAN

It is not that much of a surprise that the government and private business organisations increase the prices of goods and services in Sri Lanka. Under this policy the state-owned LITRO Lanka has increased the price of domestic gas yesterday. The 12.5 kg cylinder is now sold at Rs. 4,743.

Having made a small reduction in the prices of gas in the recent past, he has now made a bulk increase of the price of gas. This is very unfair and unreasonable increasing the domestic gas prices by leaps and bounds because the consumers are already facing a huge challenge to manage with the current prices of domestic gas whereas the present gas price revised would definitely make an extra burden in the daily life of general public. There is no any a fixed price or policies in Sri Lanka with regard to prices of goods and services but the prices of goods always floating and fluctuating on daily basis where the whole sale and retail traders sell goods at exorbitant prices at their own whims and fancies.

There is no any a fixed price or policies in Sri Lanka with regard to prices of goods and services but the prices of goods always floating and fluctuating on daily basis

In an ideal and systematic country, there should be a standard fixed price formula for everything and if they want to make any price increase they would make it with standard reason and ratio without affecting the consumers rather the general public in the particular country but the situation is very unusual and unrealistic in Sri Lanka that the government and private business organisations increase the prices of goods and services at their own will mostly at mid-night making the poor consumers and customers as scapegoats for their price race. Thus, things cannot go like this, there should be a proper order and ratio in the price increase and the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) should have some control over the price increasing business. Moreover, the petrol was increased by Rs. 30 and now a litre of petrol is sold at Rs.400. The price increase of various goods and services day by day is burning the general public alive in the country.
