J.R. Speaks for Japan

1951 – Finance Minister J.R. Jayewardene spoke at the San Francisco Peace Conference and argued for Japan’s independence and rejected war reparation. He mentioned the famous Buddhist quote, “Hatred ceases not by hatred but by love” which not only helped Japan’s cause of getting re-admitted to the international community and avoid severe sanctions, but also earned Sri Lanka a true friend.
