Queen’s visit
1954 - Queen Elizabeth accompanied by Premier Sir John Kotelawala for the ceremonial opening of the third session of the second parliament. 1954 - Just months after Queen Elizabeth II’S coronation, her royal visit to Sri Lanka took place in April 1954. This was the first visit to Sri Lanka by a reigning monarch and was celebtrated by the people of Ceylon with much fanfare. Accompanied by her husband, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen celebrated her 28th birthday in Ceylon as well.
