Irrigation Department drags its feet as…. Corrupt officials find a haven at Endagala Anicut
TISSA FERNANDO-Irrigation, Immigration, and Customs are gold mines for the officials. If you check their lifestyle and income then they will have no way to explain their source of income.
PERCY WIJENAYAKE-Irrigation Department fraud has finally been precisely highlighted.
It is hard for an honest Technical Assistant / Engineer to work in this environment. Periodically a review and update of the actual workers and contractors’ pay rates in the different trades on Irrigation works must be done and published for estimating purposes.
HAWKEYE-MY father was a professional engineer who served this once proud organisation during the pre and postindependence period. Then professionalism and honesty were the key words. However, when I joined this place in the 1970s as an Engineer, the decay and corruption were evident. Hence I decided to make a hasty exit overseas.
I am surprised how successive governments for over five decades or more paid a ‘blind eye’ to this cancerous corrupt practice in this place. Unless the politicians too had their ‘snouts in the trough’.
