Archbishop Emeritus Oswald Gomis passes away

Archbishop Emeritus Oswald Gomis passed away during early hours yesterday while being treated at a private hospital.

The late Archbishop who was 90 years old at the time of his demise was born on December 12, 1932 and received his primary education at

St. Benedict’s College Kotahena and at St. Joseph’s College Colombo. He was ordained a priest in February 1958 and was appointed as Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo in 1968. Later he was appointed at the Bishop of Anuradhapura in 1996 and was appointed as the Archbishop of Colombo in 2002. The late Bishop was one time Chancellor of Colombo University. Funeral arrangements will be notified later.
