SJB to boycott Independence Day celebration

● Says funds should not be wasted in celebrating independence when the country is going through an economic crisis

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa has decided to boycott 75th Independence Day celebrations to be held at Galle Face today.

SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara told Daily Mirror that no one including the Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa will attend the ceremony.

“We have received invitations for the event, but no one from our party will participate in it,” he added.

The reason cited for the boycott is the ideology of the party that no funds should be wasted in celebrating independence when the country is going through an economic crisis.
