Sri Lanka to vie at Asian Badminton tournament

A 57-member Sri Lankan contingent left the country yesterday to take part in the Toyota Gazoo Racing Badminton Asia Under-17 and Under15 Junior Badminton Championships, which will take place from November 29 to December 4 in Thailand.

The Sri Lankan juniors will compete against shuttlers from 15 different countries, including traditional badminton powerhouses Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, and Singapore.

The other countries that will take part in the tournament, organised by the Thailand Badminton Association under the auspices of the Badminton Asia Confederation, are: Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam, Myanmar, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Brunei, and hosts Thailand.

The Sri Lankan contingent for the tournament consists of Under-15 and Under-17 boys’ and girls’ teams, six coaches, a team manager, the head of delegation, and two Lady Chaperones representing Sri Lanka Badminton and the Sri Lanka Schools Badminton Association.
