● 10,000 officers would be trained to implement the programme

State Minister of Technology Kanaka Herath said the proposed Data Protection Authority to prevent irregularities in digitization would be established next year under Data Protection Authority Act passed in parliament this year.

Addressing a meeting in the ministry he said steps had already been taken to improve cyber protection in about ten state institutions and that 124 more state institutions maintaining vital data systems pertaining to state security, public welfare, economy and health services had been identified.

He said 10,000 officers would be trained to implement the programme.
