Hunger causing anger in Lankans

Even during the present economic crisis in Sri Lanka, there is a big widening gap between the haves and the have-nots. Vast majority of people – for example, the farmers, the fisher folk, the plantation workers, the vendors, the unemployed and the underemployed -- are struggling to lead lives worthy of human dignity. They are hungry and their hunger is causing anger since they do not have the wherewithal, the purchasing power, to overcome the present pathetic economic situation. Lack of proper nourishment is causing sicknesses and even death especially at present when Sri Lanka does not have the needed medicine to cure the sick and the wounded. Moreover, hunger of the poor masses is also causing evil tendencies and social evils for example thefts and other moral disorders.

In the above-mentioned sad situation, we, the Sri Lankans, need to thank the Founders of our Faiths for the gift of compassionate individuals, families and organizations within and outside Sri Lanka, who are sharing even their meagre resources, feeding the hungry and helping the sick for medical care.
