Man granted bail after stealing Minister’s daughter’s diamond ring worth Rs. 2.2Mn

A man who was arrested for having stolen a diamond-encrusted gold ring worth Rs. 2.2 million at a hotel near the Yala National Park, was released on bail by the Tissamaharama Magistrate’s Court.

The suspect, a mason who is working at a construction site near the hotel was arrested after a complaint was lodged with the Kirinda Police over the loss of the ring.

Police said a businessman had lodged a complaint that the ring was stolen on Saturday.

It was reported that the ring belonged to the daughter of a Minister.

The ring is reported to have been stolen when the woman had left it on the wall of the open bathroom at the hotel while showering and had forgotten to take it.

However, after launching investigations using CCTV footage of the hotel, Police found the suspect taking the ring which the woman had left on the wall of the open bathroom.

Police said the suspect was released on bail after no charges were framed against the suspect as he handed the ring over to the owner.
