Commonwealth Games honours Hemasiri Fernando

Hemasiri Fernando, former President of the National Olympic Committee of
Sri Lanka (NOCSL), was bestowed with the Commonwealth Games honorary lifetime award during a ceremony held in Birmingham, England.
This is the first time that a Sri Lankan sports official has received this award in the history of the Commonwealth Games and the presentation was made by the current Chairman of the Commonwealth Games, Lewis Martin.
Fernando was presented with this award for his excellent services as a sports administrator, having served the NOCSL for over two decades, and for the promotion of sports at home and overseas.
Fernando was a reputed rifle shooter and had served as the President of the South Asian Olympic Committee and the Asian Olympic Committee.
Fernando represented Sri Lanka at the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi and finished sixth out of competitors from 45 countries.
