Retired female state bank AGM arrested over Rs.68 Mn fraud

A 62-year old woman, a retired assistant general manager of a state bank had been arrested over a financial fraud to the tune of Rs.68 million by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday.

Police said the CID had launched an investigation following a complaint that the internal audit officer of a state bank presented fake documents to a state bank in Kadawatha regarding a fraud of Rs.68,340,000 through 48 personal loan files on November 17, 2017.

The suspect woman was arrested in Colombo Fort over aiding and abetting the fraud.

Investigation revealed that the main suspect wanted over the fraud who was also working in the same bank, is not among the living.

It was also revealed that arrested woman had been working in the credit department of the bank when the fraud took place.

The suspect, a resident of Kadawatha has been remanded until August 10 after being produced before the Fort Magistrate.
