Indigenous people offer bee honey to the Sacred Tooth Relic

The Vedda community leader Uruwarige Wannila Aththo said yesterday in Kandy that the authorities had not yet taken any steps to address the major issues affecting the indigenous people and that he was planning to have talks in this regard with the officials organising the Indigenous day celebrations.

He told the media during his visit to Sri Dalada Maligawa to perform the tradition of offering bee honey to the Sacred Tooth Relic. More than 40 members of the Vedda clan participated. He said the council of Veddha clan” Wariga Sabha” would meet tonight and that on August 09 the indigenous day would be celebrated, giving priority to their traditions. Wannila Aththo who stressed the need to protect the environment and the forest resources expressed concern about the ongoing wanton destruction of forests.
