Fuel crisis get furious

M. JALALDEEN ISFAN

Since the government has informed that they are going to limit the distribution of fuel only for essential services, the public are in a great mess and it creates daunting challenges in the daily life of people.

The general public are facing numerous challenges and difficulties in fulfilling their day to day needs and this sudden announcement of the government has thrown the people from frying pan to fire. The serious and severe problem is with health issues that the people face to go to hospital or take the patient to a nearest hospital in an emergency situation and doctors also facing the practical problem in finding petrol for their vehicles to come to the hospital to give treatment to patients who come to the OPD and emergency service unit.

The fuel crisis has also put a spoke in the wheels of ordinary transportations of essential goods and services. There is a massive surge in the prices of essential and non-essential goods in the market because there is no enough fuel to transport goods from one place to another. This formidable fuel crisis has affected the life of women deeply because the women only have to face the problems created by current fuel crisis. They have to bear all the household chores and cooking responsibilities of a family.

There is a new culture forming in Sri Lanka is that fuel and essential goods are sold at an exorbitant prices in the black market. These errant traders purchase fuels and essential goods from the shed owners and wholesale traders and sell those fuel and goods at high prices when there is a scarcity prevails in the market.

The youth in the country also face a severe problem without employment because the current fuel and economic crises have compelled many youth to lose their jobs and force them to find an alternative means of income to move their lives in this critical situation. As an alternative these youth are trying to go abroad, which too has become impossible because they cannot travel to Colombo to obtain a passport.

Thus the government should look into the predicaments of masses and bring solution for these burning issues in the country.
