St. Joseph’s College Under 20 schools basketball champions

Exhibiting their superiority on the courts St. Joseph’s College Colombo 10, led by robust, national pool player, Shehan Fernando, emerged undisputed Champions in the All Island Schools U-20 “A” division Basketball Tournament, scoring an empirical victory over Royal College Colombo, in the final played at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo.

The tournament was conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Basketball Association in five divisions for boys and girls, revived after a lapse of three years, and was sponsored by Gaja Sports.

The Joes on their way to the finals beat Gateway College, Kandy 60/38, Mahinda College, Galle 75/38, Angel International, Jaffna 75/32 and LPF Academy Dehiwala 90/38 in the preliminaries. In the final round they defeated, Ananda College 62/57 (Quarter Finals), DS Senanayake College 87/36 (Semi Finals) and Royal College 68/52 (Final) Fernando was adjudged as the most valuable player while his team mate, Keith Costa was named as the best offensive player.
