'TRANSFORMER'
BY LOU REED
As was underlined in last year's documentary by Todd Haynes, “The Velvet Underground”, Reed was a prickly character whose ego helped destroy one of the most influential bands of the 1960s.
But Reed emerged from the ashes with his most commercial and successful album. “Walk on the Wild Side” is now a rock standard, while “Perfect Day” gained a second lease of life two decades later on the soundtrack to “Trainspotting”.
