Central Expressway quick earning

Nothing can empty one’s cranium faster than a big mouth, so has our Minister for Highways trumpeted saying, within three days of opening the Central highway, Rs.10 million had been collected from drivers.an event, certainly to crow about. One pertinent question to pose is with this collection, can the government pay back the loan in US dollars. If not, it is paper money circulating within the country, taxing the local travelers, who are struggling with high cost of living adding to the cost of production, by including the tariff paid.

Is the Minister aware, the paucity of foreign exchange in this country is the undertaking of quixotic ventures to satisfy the ego of some politicians or to enrich the Pandora box and not national interest at all, and having to pay back the loan in foreign exchange. It is no denying that expressways are necessary but along with that there should be exports to bring foreign exchange and that sector should be encouraged, nurtured.

To give the correct picture of this boast, let me go to Sri Lanka’s parliamentary language and sayings very often hear in debates in our parliament, where school children are barred from hearing debates in that so-called august assembly, if I am excused for saying “Much air; no substance”!
