Kavinda appointed Trinity Head Coach

Former Trinity Rugby ‘Lion’, Havelock SC, Match Referee and current Secretary of the Central Province Rugby Football Union (CPRFU), Kavinda Jayasena, was appointed as the Head Coach of Trinity Rugby and Colorsman, Thusitha De Silva, will be the Assistant Coach.

Kavinda, the former Trinitian, represented his school at all age groups (13, 15, 17, and 1st XV) and at club level, he represented Havelock Sports Club from 2001-2002 and from 20062015, leading the team in 2008 and 2011. In the year 2003, he came back to his home town, where he learnt the game and played for Kandy SC in 2003.

At the national level, he represented the his World Rugby (WR) Level Three (03) and WR Level One 7-a-side Coaching. He is also one of the three qualified IRB Match Commissioners in the country and has completed IRB Strength and Condoning Level 1. Currently, he holds a vital position at the Central Province Rugby Football Union (CPRFU) as the Secretary. He was the team manager of Havelock SC in 2018 and the High-performance Team Manager of Sri Lanka Rugby.

Kavinda is the son of the famous ruggerite George Jayasena, who started his rugby at Vidyartha College and his first club was Kandy Lake Club.

Before hanging up his boots, Thusitha represented Trinity College at all age groups (13, 15, 17, and 1st XV), as well as Kandy Sports Club, Kandy Youth Sports Club, and Old Trinitians Sports Club. He captained the College Under 17 team in 1993 while playing in the 1st XV team and won his prestigious school’s rugby colours in the year 1994.

Thushitha completed IRB Level 1, IRB Level 2, IRB Strength and Condoning

Level 1, and was also a part of the Trinity coaching unit under Neil Footy, Erick Miller and Lotte Raikaboola.

Former All Black and Trinity College

Rugby Consultant Rodney So’oilo is tipped to continue as the consultant for Trinity but has yet to confirm his availability after taking up the coaching role as the Head Coach of the Malaysian Rugby Football Union. Kavinda and Thusitha were both understudying for the legendary All Black.
