Ferry bridge capsizes

One drowned and four others who fell into the river had a narrow escape when a ferry crossing the Kaluganga in Kalutara capsized. The body of the victim was recovered last morning by Navy and Army divers.

Police said this accident occurred even before the dust settled on a similar accident at Kinniya just two days ago.

Chetaka Sandaruwan (30) was a resident of Kitulawa and father of three children of whom the youngest was five years old. He was on his way back after employment when he met with the accident,

Investigations revealed that the double canoe ferry had five passengers, three motorcycles, and a bicycle on board at the time of the incident and four of the passengers including the ferryman had been saved by the residents of the area.

Kalutara South Police are conducting further investigations.
