Woman arrested for attempted black mail

A woman from Saliya Asokapura in Rajangana who had black mailed a young woman demanding a ransom of Rs.200,000 not to release her nude photos on social media was arrested by the Kurunegala Division Crime Investigation Unit.

The 42-year-old suspect was a peon on the non-academic staff of a government school in Saliya Asokapura.

On the advice of the police that initiated investigations of the complaint, the young woman had .agreed to pay the ransom and had arranged to meet the suspect at the Galgamuwa railway station. She had carried a bundle of currency notes and when the suspect woman accepted the money, the police had arrested her. Investigations revealed that the young woman had been in love with a young man for several years and that the suspect was under the impression that he had been in possession of her nude photos.
