New bridge at Strathspey Estate, Upcot opens

A newly built bridge on Cleveland division under the Rural Bridge Project was declared open recently.

This bridge has been a dire need for a long time for the pedestrians and vehicle owners as the existing lowered road/ culvert that had been constructed dating back to more than 100 years was getting submerged by floods during rainy days making the road completely impassable and causing damage to the environment.

With the initiative taken by the management of Strathspey Estate managed by Maskeliya Plantations Plc., coming under the purview of Arpico Group of Companies, Ministry of Internal & Home Affairs and Provincial Councils and Local Government came forward to provide the required funds for the construction of this new bridge. The construction work was undertaken by the Engineering Firm viz M/s. RCE Construction.

Following a religious ceremony held the Superintendent/dgm opened the bridge.
