Githmi, Methwan, Vichinthya emerge champions

The three singles finals of the 106th Colombo Tennis Championship junior category saw Githmi Fernando in the Girls’ Under-12, Methwan Wijemanne in the Boys’ Under-14, and Vichinthya Nilaweera in the Boys’ Under-16 come out victorious in their respective fixtures played at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo yesterday.

Githmi defeated Gehansa Methnadi in a hard fought encounter by two sets to one, while both Methwan and Vichinthya coasted to easy twosets-to-nil wins over Dhanushka Dias and Wenuka Kithnula, respectively. Meanwhile, in the doubles quarter-finals which were played concurrently, the pairs of Oneli Perera and Tania Doloswala in the Girls’ Under-18 category and Chathurya Nilaweera and Thehan Wijemanne, along with R. Ratnasingham and Isuru Peiris in the Boys’ Under-18 category, qualified for the semis. The championship will continue today.
