A barge carrying a consignment of coal to the Lakvijaya thermal power complex in Norochcholai had lost its course due to the gale force wind experienced on Sunday night (26) and drifted ashore to Ilanthidiya.

Manager of the power complex Engineer Nalaka Wijekoon said the barge operator had lost control of it due to the stormy wind. He said the barge more than 100ft. long, owned by an Indian shipping line, was carrying a consignment of 2,000 metric tons of coal from ships, when it lost its course.
