OUR SYMPATHIES…

It was sad to hear of the death of the late Daham Wimalasena recently. He was a former General secretary of the UNP and contributed greatly to the landslide UNP victory under the late President Jayewardene at the 1977 election. He was also Chairman of the Petroleum Corporation and a member of Parliament on the National List and a former Administrator of the Cricket Board. His wife Sita was also Head of Lanka Salu Sala at a time when it did very well under her expert management. Our sympathies go to Sita on her sad loss. Daham was the nephew of the late Noel Wimalasena who was Minister of Finance in a former UNP government, and won his seat in Senkadagala in the Kandy district when the UNP won only 8 seats. He was later appointed as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner in the UK.
