The Ceylon Motor Sports Club, the oldest Motor Sports Club in the country, are once again conducting the Nippon Karting Slalom Championship 2023, with Nippon Paints, LOLC Finance and Speed Bay as main sponsors.

Karting Slalom was introduced in Sri Lanka by the CMSC mainly to attract new comers in motor sport, where by a Go Kart is driven along a predetermined course, set out by cones.

The speed of the kart is just above walking pace, but the skill and precision required to follow the course in the shortest time make this art of motorsport extremely challenging.

In 2023, the CMSC along with its sponsors, have come up with a unique championship for Karting Slalom, where by competitors will be categoried into the following classes:

Cadet - 10 to 12 years, Junior - 13 to 15, Senior - 16 to 30, Master - 31 to 45, Veteran 46 and above, Ladies - 10+

While a cash award of Rs 25,000.00 will be awarded to the competitor with the fastest time for the day, prize money will also be awarded for the individual championship categories at the completion of three rounds.

The venue for the rounds will be the Nawam Mawatha Car Park, while round one will be on the 26th of March, round 2 on the 30th of April and the final round on the 19th of April 2023.

“This art of motor sport is ideal for anyone interested in motor sport, to come and try, as it will be an ideal launch pad, of a specific segment of racing, which will be an introduction for any competitor wishing to take part in, the FIA Asia Pacific Motor Sport Game, which is due to be held in Malaysia this September," said the President of the CMSC Shafraz Junaid.
