Norman Vincent Peale The 13th Anniversary is celebrated with Citrine, a beautiful yellow quartz which denotes success and happiness, is believed to repel negative energies. Chrysanthemums, signify abundance, loveliness, wealth, cheerfulness and optimism. We at Horizon College International (HCI), Malabe, have neither given up on our hopes, aspirations nor compromised on our standards albeit the dark challenging times during the Covid 19 pandemic. Instead we have strived, persevered and toiled on behalf of our students, amidst arduous times and we have succeeded. Thus, as we celebrate our 13th anniversary we have reason to be overjoyed!

The founder Chairman- Mr Upul Daranagama, says “I am highly satisfied with the progress HCI has made: we are a member of TISSL, a registered Edexcel Pearson testing centre and our students have 100% success rate at the Edexcel exams. He mentions that HCI has provided all the necessary infrastructure facilities for the students including facilities for sports, a gym and swimming pool etc. The senior section is fully digitalized and classrooms are equipped with smart boards, which has optimized the quality of teaching.

Glorious results at the Edexcel exam

HCI, continued online teaching/ learning process successfully throughout the pandemic and the 2022 Edexcel London exam results clearly depict how the Horizonites have maintained their prowess in academics with outstanding results. At the IGCSE exam (May/ June 2022) out of 77 students who sat for the exam, the total number of 9 Scale is 119, 8 Scale: 134 and 7 Scale: 126 students. The following students have obtained 9 scale for 8 subjects: Ayuka Panditharathne, Amaya De Silva and Tiana Perera. 9 scale for 7 subjects were obtained by Mehensa Herath, Thirani Perera, and Ashley Phillip.

The IAL results are remarkable too. IAL Business stream May / June 2022 exam, Shannon Perera, Tharuki Jayarathne, and Tharindi Wijesinghe have secured A grades in all subjects. Similarly in A/L Science stream Bashitha Perera, Hirusha Illangamudalige and Sakun Silva, secured A grades in all subjects. Out of 24 students who sat for A/L, the results obtained are: 26As, 20Bs, and 11Cs.

IAS Business stream, the following students obtained all A grades. Thisanga Vinujana, Nethmi Punchihewa, Mohamed Abdul Cader and Misala Senarathna. In the Bio Science stream Michelle Pathberiya has obtained 4As in all subjects. In the IAS Engineering stream Mihini Ranasinghe, Hasindu Vithanage, Thisath Senarathna, Sandin Perera and Keshan Dissanayake obtained A grades for all the subjects. Furthermore, at the Year 6 Iprimary and Year 9 Ilower Secondary exams Horizonites have performed exceptionally well. Thus, HCI can claim with pride that the online teaching learning process has indeed been a resounding success.

Achievements in Sports

HCI maintained a healthy balance between academic work and sports activities albeit the numerous obstacles due to the pandemic. In 2022, the Horizonites excelled in chess, athletics, netball, swimming and Table Tennis.

At the Sri Lanka Schools Zonal Athletic Championship 2022, 4x100 - Relay – 1st Place was awarded to U 14 HCI Boys team. Horizonites excelled in chess : Champion (U 14 Boys Open) at the Western Province National Youth Blitz Chess Championship 2022; ranked in the top 5 at Sri Lanka School Chess Association Western Province Chess Championship 2022; qualified to represent Sri Lanka as additional players of the Asian Schools Chess Championship.

Another remarkable achievement was when HCI, Under 14 Girls Netball team won the Championship at the Inter- International Schools Netball Tournament 2022. At the Western Province Swimming Championship 2022, HCI obtained 15th place out of 58 Boys Schools. At the SLASU Novices Swimming championship 2022, HCI Girls performed outstandingly, winning the 8th place out of 68 girls’ schools.

Much glory was achieved in Table Tennis: HCI Under l4 Girls Team, Under 14 Boys Team and Under 19 Boys Team emerged as Champions at the Sri Lanka Schools Table Tennis Championship 2022.

The founder Principal Mrs Maryanne Hills says, “We have indeed come a long way, thanks to the very dedicated Management, academic staff and the support staff.” She elaborated on the numerous plans the school management has drawn up i.e. digitalizing the entire school with smart boards, enhancing value education, environment friendly projects, developing pastoral care and staff quality development etc. in order to ensure the continued success of HCI.

Thus, we at HCI, have reason to be overjoyed!
