House of the owner of a filling station in Kekirawa set ablaze

The house belonging to the owner of the IOC Filling Station at Ranajayapura in Ipalogama, Kekirawa had been set on fire on May 21, the Ipalogama Police said.

According to the Police, a large crowd had gathered to obtain fuel on May 21 and some of them could not obtain fuel as the station ran out of fuel resulting in a group to set fire to the owner’s house out of fury.

The suspects have set fire to a two-story house said to belong to the filling station owner located at Thilakapura, Ipalogama during a prevailing power cut at night. The Police added that the wife and the two children of the station owner had been at home when the house was set on fire. Surrounding villagers and officers of the Ipalogama Police have doused the fire and saved the residents.

The fire has caused severe damages to the house and properties including the schoolbooks of the two school children of whom one is to sit for the GCE Advance Level Examination next year.

Ipalogama Police is carrying out investigations to arrest the suspects on the instructions of senior police officers in charge of the Anuradhapura division.
