Sri Lanka U19 seal series

BY M. SHAMILAMIT

Shevon Daniel partnered Wanuja Sahan in an unbroken 66 run stand for the eighth wicket to see Sri Lanka U19 record a three wicket win over Bangladesh U19 in the third Youth ODI encounter played at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium yesterday. The win saw the host nation clinching the series with two matches remaining.

Daniel made an unbeaten 85 that included seven boundaries and a six while Sahan cantered to an undefeated 38 with two boundaries for Sri Lanka U19 chasing 185 runs for victory to reach the target in the 47th over.

Sri Lanka U19 in their run chase lost two early wickets with the score on 14 in the seventh over before top scorer Daniel along with man in form Pawan Pathiraja came to the rescue putting on a valuable 75 run stand for the third wicket.

The dismissal of Pathiraja saw Sri Lanka losing three quick wickets for the addition of just seven runs as they slid to 96 for 6 in the 28th over.

Earlier in the day the reigning the ICC U19 World Champions taking first lease of the wicket after skipper S.M. Meherob won the toss was unable to make any significant impression.

They collapsed to 56 for 5 which included the two top scorers of the previous two matches in Aich Mollah and Mahfijul Islam. Tottering at 71 for 7 at the halfway stage of the innings Bangladeshi juniors recovered thanks to a 71 run stand for the eighth wicket between Ashikur Zaman and Naimur Rohman.

The two sides will play the 4th ODI on October 23 at the same venue.
