CA Sri Lanka launches Annual Report Awards...

The Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) announced this week the launch of the Annual Report Awards 2021 which will have the marking system automated due to the ongoing Covid-19 crisis in the country.

While the red circled event did not take place last year due to the outbreak of the pandemic, this year the competition will be carried out with a number of concessions.

Applications for the 56th Annual Report Awards will be accepted from 15 August onwards from organisations ranging from multinationals to blue-chip companies, conglomerates, small and medium businesses, state corporations, statutory bodies, NGOS, and NPOS.

The competition is open to any entity that produces an annual report, the CA Sri Lanka said.

With the Annual Report Awards, CA Sri Lanka aims at promoting transparency, corporate governance, sustainability, and social responsibility in local companies.

The 2021 edition will also present special awards for corporate governance, corporate social responsibility and integrated reporting. The awards will be presented under 26 categories, where winning companies will receive gold, silver and bronze awards.

The competition is open to organisations representing banking, diversified holdings, finance & leasing, insurance, trading, investment banking, food and beverage, healthcare, hotels, land & property, manufacturing, motor companies, service organisations, telecommunications, unit trusts, media and entertainment, state corporations & statutory bodies, plantation, constructions, power & energy, SMES, NPOS and NGOS.

Commenting on the path companies must take to steer the economy towards a positive growth trajectory in a manner that allows higher earnings with minimal impacts on the environment, CA Sri Lanka President Manil Jayesinghe stressed the need for companies to re-evaluate their choices in the current situation.

“Those who sit at the nerve centre of an organisation are considered the gatekeepers. Therefore, we must use our position to promote responsible and greener investments to ensure a safer planet for us,” said Jayesinghe during the official announcement of the competition.
