Weightlifting Selection Trials on August 8

The Sri Lanka Weightlifting Federation (SLWF) will conduct a special selection trial (three events) on August 8 at the Torrington Indoor Stadium in Colombo while targeting several upcoming international events.

Their main focus is the Commonwealth Senior, Junior and Youth Championships, which will be held from October 20 to 24 in Singapore.

The SLWF is planning to field a 40-member (Men and Women) contingent for this meet in the weight categories of 67kg, 73kg and 109kg, according to the Secretary SLWF G. Nishanthan.

The senior team will include a total of 20 weightlifters while the junior and youth teams will comprise of 10 weightlifters each. The meet in Singapore will also serve as a trial to select the team for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, which will be held in Birmingham, England on August 9 - 18.

The SLWF is hoping at least 10 weightlifters would qualify for the Commonwealth Games in England.
