Two Sri Lankan golfers, 15-year-old Reshan Algama of Colombo International School and Chanaka Perera of Certis Lanka, will compete at the 122nd Amateur Championship of India. This prestigious event is scheduled to take place at the historic Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC) from December 12–17. On the 11th, it will be a practice session. With more than 120 players hailing from around the globe, this championship promises to be a Champaign golf tournament set to feature qualifying match play, gradually narrowing down the field to the top 32 players, who will then engage in strokeplay individual matches, with the grand finale on December 17. Reshan becomes one of the youngest Sri Lankans to represent the nation, but he has also secured an impressive 2nd place in the national leaderboard. He is currently in the top 800 position in the world rankings, a testament to his growing international acclaim. Chanaka, a 29-year-old veteran amateur, is showcasing his skills with the goal of becoming a professional golfer by the year’s end. Perera’s journey exemplifies the enduring spirit of golf, emphasising the sport’s potential for growth and transformation. The organisation’s commitment to the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU) in nurturing talent and facilitating participation in international tournaments is paramount to elevating the country’s standing in the global golfing arena.
