The Pinnacle of the Cheithiya in Nelumvila Temple in Polgasowita was unveiled on Saturday (18) by former President and Parliamentarian Mahinda Rajapaksa. The ceremony had been organised by Chief Incumbent of the temple Ven. Vitharandeniye Medhananda Thera to mark the birthday of the former President. The shrine room in the inner chamber of the Cheithiya was declared open by Minister of Transport Dr. Bandula Gunawardena, the outer shrine rooms by Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon, and the main shrine room by Parliamentarian Sarath Weerasekara. The illumination was opened by Parliamentarian Gamini Lokuge. Mahasangha including Chief Incumbent of Colombo Fort Sambuddhaloka Temple and former Vice Chancellor of the Sri Lanka Buddhist and Pali University Ven. Prof. Itthademaliye Indasara Thera. Chancellor of the Colombo University and Chief Sanghanayake of the Western Province Murutthettuwe Ananda Thera and several devotees were present at the occasion.
